SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE 1

ACTIVITY 1.1: Numerical models simulations on a national basis of meteorological parameters and main air pollutants on a 5x5-km scale. Models of transport and chemical reaction of substances in aerosol and gaseous phase are used, powered by prognostic meteorological models actingon spatial scales with increasing resolution (from European to National). This activity will be carried outin collaboration with ARIANET, a private society with specific skills in thefield: previous documented experience; specialized human resources in the field of environmental modelling; hardware and software equipment on High-Performance Computing platforms for environmental modelling through meteorological prognostic models and multiscale Eulerian models of chemical transport in gaseous and aerosol phase.

ACTIVITY 1.2: Development of statistical models for the estimation of temperatures and daily concentrations of atmospheric particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) across the Italian territory on a 1x1-km scale, starting from satellite, temperature and PM data provided by monitoring stations and land use variables.

ACTIVITY 1.3: Collection of daily data on hospital admissionsfor all municipalities of the national territory, for the years 2006-2015.

ACTIVITY 1.4: Collection of daily data on work-related accidents reports, for all municipalities of the national territory, for the years 2006-2015.

ACTIVITY 1.5: Assessment of the effects of air pollutants and air temperature on daily hospital admissions for cardio-respiratory diseases, both on the national territory and on metropolitan, urban, sub-urban, rural and industrial municipalities.

ACTIVITY 1.6: Assessment of the acute effects of air pollutants and air temperature on reports of work accidents at national level, stratifying for metropolitan, urban, sub-urban, rural and industrial municipalities, and for categories of workers at risk.
